The Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) and Air Tanzania have jointly staged a tourism-cum-travel expo in New Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmadabad.

The ongoing expo, which commenced on September 18, is expected to attract tourists to the tourist destinations of the country.

Devota Mdachi, TTB’s Managing Director, said they will meet over 200 agents and Indian film stars whom they will ask to consider making films in Tanzania’s tourist attractions.

Tanzania is looking at diversifying its customary source markets – America and Europe – by targeting India, which has been identified as a highly-lucrative source market whose potential has not been thoroughly explored or tapped into.

Mdachi said that Air Tanzania is spreading its wings to India, a very populous emerging economic giant. She says that the TTB plans to expose tourist attractions, and discuss tourist and travel opportunities with agents. “We are optimistic on the outcome of visits and talks.”

Air Tanzania recently started operating flights between Dar es Salaam and Mumbai this month.

This is the first joint-promotional undertaking between the two institutions, and seeks to simultaneously make Air Tanzania’s operations, and the country’s tourist attractions, known to the world.

Josephat Kagirwa, Air Tanzania’s Head of Public Relations and Communications, said that the airline is expecting more aircraft, with two arriving in November. With an increased fleet, Air Tanzania’s regional flights will surge, especially to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and other African countries.

The event is scheduled to end on September 21.
