UNWTO and NEPAD Partners to promote African Tourism Innovation

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and international Organization Nepad is collaborating to promote Travel and Tourism innovation in Africa. The project forms part of this year,’s Investor as the forum will be celebrating its 10th edition,.

In an attempt to further spur the growth of technology and innovation, UNWTO Africa and NEPAD launched the UNWTO/NEPAD Tourism Tech Adventure to encourage the development of technology and innovation in the tourism sector in Africa. The UNWTO/NEPAD Tourism Tech Adventure aims to provide a platform to African youth entrepreneurs to nurture their innovative ideas and utilize technology in further developing the tourism sector in Africa.

The three-day initiative challenges African entrepreneurs and innovators to design innovative startups that will positively contribute to the facilitation of travel and tourism. Five startups will receive sponsorship to learn, pitch and travel to Madrid during the 10th edition of INVESTOUR, the tourism and investment business forum for Africa, and will gain exposure to the world’s tourism leaders, investors, corporates, academia and supporting business partners.

About INVESTOUR
INVESTOUR is an initiative promoted by Casa Africa, The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and IFEMA and is organized annually during FITUR, Spain’s International Tourism Trade Fair; INVESTOUR is a forum which promotes sustainable tourism in Africa. The forum is composed of two sessions: round table session and B2B meetings session.

3-day Programme:
Day 1, 23rd January 2019: Startup Masterclass at UNWTO HQ
Day 2, 24th January 2019: INVESTOUR, with the pitch session at IFEMA
Day 3, 25th January 2019: Technical Tour in Madrid

About NEPAD
The New Partnership for Africa´s Development (NEPAD) is a socio-economic flagship programme of the African Union (AU). NEPAD is the implementing agency of the AU which facilitates and coordinates the development of continent-wide programmes and projects, mobilizes resources and engages the global community, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and member states in the implementation of these programmes and projects.
