THE chief executive officer of the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority, Angeline Simana, has tendered her resignation, works minister John Mutorwa confirmed yesterday.
Her last working day was yesterday.

Although he could not give more details, Mutorwa said Simana will be taking up a new position outside of the country, but within Africa.

Sources told The Namibian that Simana allegedly resigned because she failed an airworthy audit, and could not do an NCAA financial audit that was overdue.

Both Simana and NCAA board chairperson Kosmas Egumbo did not respond to questions or answer their phones.

Public enterprises minister Leon Jooste said on Tuesday that he did not receive anything formal confirming her resignation.

“I have heard from the chairperson that it is the case. She has been offered a position with one of the regional bodies, and is resigning to take up that position. I have no information of the entity or the position she’s been offered,” he said.

Simana has worked under the works ministry as a transport economist, and was promoted to deputy director of transportation policy before becoming a transportation policy and regulation director in 2007.

She was later appointed as director of the then Directorate of Civil Aviation, something which was heavily reported on, with some feeling then works minister Erkki Nghimtina should not have apnpointed her.

Simana was then appointed as executive of the NCAA when the entity was officially set up in 2017 following the amendment of the Aviation Act.

Reinhard Gardner, who previously served as deputy chair of the NCAA board will be acting chief executive director.
