Grow Unite Build Africa (GUBA) Enterprise’s President and CEO, Mrs Dentaa Amoateng has said that GUBA awards will promote tourism and create opportunities for Ghana.

This award scheme, according to her will invite people from all walks of life and high –profile dignitaries like Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Alejandra Campbell Barr, Former Liberia President, Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, Director –General of WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala into Ghana.

“I went to Costa Rica with my brother under the UNFPA and every single person we told the Nana Yaa Asantewaa story to was amazed and is willing to come to Ghana to witness this awards” she said.
According to her “this award will put Ghana on the map and encourage people to learn about the history of Ghana”.

The two-day and maiden edition of the award event in Ghana will be held in Manhyia Palace, Kumasi and Accra International Conference Centre, Accra on November 7- 8, 2021 respectively. The award event themed “Celebrating a Symbol of Courage and Resilience” will celebrate Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the popular warrior and Queen mother of Ejisu, who lead an Asante army against the British.

There has been confirmation of attendance from high profile dignitaries, the First and Second Lady of Ghana, Angelique Kidjo, Nana Ama Mcbrown and many others.

“Yaa Asantewaa has not been celebrated enough, yet she led independence and is part of our independence story. If Nana Yaa Asantewaa was born in the USA or UK she would have been popular than she is here in Ghana”, Mrs Amoateng postulated.

Alongside celebrating Yaa Asantewaa, black women in the diaspora and across Africa will be recognized for their immense contribution to Africa.

The 2021 GUBA Awards will also honour market women of Kejetia and Odum market for their economic participation. According to Mrs Amoateng “these women have contributed to economic activities in Ghana and without these women how will we get food to eat”.
