Award winning soul singer Gemma Griffiths and Nutty O will headline next year’s edition of the Victoria Falls Carnival scheduled for April.
The carnival returns next year for its 10th edition, with organisers moving it from December to April 2022.
The event will have headline performances like South African based Zimbabwean artiste Sha Sha, Dj Maphorisa, Master KG, Scorpion King, Kabza De Small and many Sub-Saharan African artistes.
For now, the organisers have only released two artistes from Zimbabwe and will announce more artistes in due course.
Last year, the event was cancelled due to Covid-19, but organisers have said that they were ready to bring the musical event back to life. The three-day event will be held from April 29 to May 1 2022.
Victoria Falls Carnival director Graig Bright said they had moved the event from December to April because they were trying to reformat it.
“For the past nine years, the Vic Falls Carnival has always taken place over the New Year period, cementing it as one of Africa’s top NYE events,” he said.
“In 2022, the organisers have looked to reformat the event. Vic Falls Carnival is Africa’s celebration of its diverse culture, food and arts, and as such deserves its own unique date so we are moving away from the celebration of end of a year into the start of a new year and focussing on what we stand for as a richly diverse African celebration.
“We have chosen a long weekend that offers festival-goers more competitive packages, a wider selection of artists from around the continent, and with the statistically better weather expected, it will allow fans to see the Victoria Falls in all its glory after the summer rains.”
Bright said the event will only be opened to those who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
“All Covid-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to during the festival dates and only fully vaccinated festival-goers will be given entry to the festival,” he said.
“If not fully vaccinated, they must have had a negative Covid-19 test within 48 hours of the carnival to enter. This is an important focus for us event organisers and all steps will be taken to ensure a safe festival environment.”
