Written by two highly experienced tour guides, ‘Tour Guiding: the Ultimate Guide to Theory and Practice’ is published as a handy manual into the world of tour guiding generally and with specific focus on Ghana.

At the launch of the book last Wednesday, December 1, various speakers commended the writers for providing a “standard guide and standardized source of information” for the tourism sector.

Chairman of the Ghana Tourism Authority Board, Charles Osei Bonsu said the relevance of the book is in the fact that it is authored by two people who bring years of experience both in theoretical and practical approaches to tour guiding to the reading audience and tourists.

Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Eliphas Barine was particularly impressed the book provides information not just on the must-know about tour guiding as a profession, but ample information about Ghana’s tourism landscape.

Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo praised the writers for giving readers an inkling into the work of tour guides adding that they give interpretation, “lack of which takes away relevance from tour guiding.”

The first part of the 150-page book takes readers into the techniques on general guiding.

Topics such as, Tourism and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Relevant Guiding and Tourism Terminologies and Effective Tour Guiding, among others are all covered in the first part.

The Ghana-specific section introduces readers and users to a Brief Geography of Ghana, Colonial Towns and Castles, Traditional Festivals of Ghana, Peopling of Ghana and other interesting topics that are written not just to give information but also capture the imagination of the reader.
