Rwanda will host the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) 2023 Global Summit, making it the first time the important event will be held in Africa.

The decision to meet in Rwanda was confirmed at WTTC’s Global Summit held last December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Confirming this to VoyagesAfriq in an interview, Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council said Rwanda has shown growth in the areas of nature conservation and tourism.

“In November, the WTTC will be going to Rwanda and we are going to hold there, a major annual summit. Rwanda is an incredible example in Africa of a country that has done so much in the world of conservation, biodiversity, and protecting nature; we all know about Rwanda and the gorillas and they’ve done much more than that as well.
“Rwanda is now a really modern African country, is bringing in business travellers, there is a lot of innovations going on, so we are very proud to host a major conference there,” she maintained.

As home to the International Gorilla Conservation Programme, the WTTC Global Summit is expected to help Rwanda showcase the power of sustainable tourism to protect biodiversity and create thriving communities while highlighting and celebrating the country’s travel and tourism success stories.

The most important travel and tourism event of the year, the WTTC Global Summit, will once again bring together influential business leaders and key government officials to continue coordinating efforts to support the industry’s recovery and advance towards a safer, more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.

The 2023 Global Summit will take place in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital from 1-3 November.
