Ahead of the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa, the global tourism body is organising a photo contest for young Zimbabwean creatives.

The “UN Tourism “A Journey through Zimbabwe´s Gastronomy” Youth Photo” Contest celebrates the nation’s culinary tapestry through the art of photography, while promoting the destination and stimulating gastronomy tourism.

The competition also puts a spotlight on Zimbabwe´s gastronomy which is rich and diverse in ingredients, flavours and traditions and stands as a pivotal asset for preserving cultural heritage and propelling inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development at the national level and beyond.

“By highlighting the country’s traditional dishes, cultural heritage, and unique culinary techniques, this platform serves not only to raise awareness but also to inspire and invite locals and travelers to discover and immerse themselves in Zimbabwe’s cultural and culinary wonders,” the UN Tourism says.

Open to young amateurs, the photo contest presents an exceptional opportunity for Zimbabwean communities to express their perspective and capture the essence of Zimbabwe’s gastronomic heritage through the lens of their cameras. The competion is open from June 10 – July 1, 2024. From July 1-15, a jury will assess entries with winners being announced in Victoria Falls, 26 to 28 July 2024 during the Regional Forum on Gastronomy.
