Air Arabia has announced the introduction of non-stop flights connecting Sharjah International Airport to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Starting January 30, 2025, this new route will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using Airbus A320 aircraft. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity between the UAE and Ethiopia, fostering economic and cultural ties while offering passengers affordable travel options.

The new service is designed to provide convenient travel options for passengers commuting between the two cities. Departures from Sharjah will take place at 21:25, arriving in Addis Ababa at 00:40 local time. Return flights will depart Addis Ababa at 01:30, landing in Sharjah at 06:40 local time. All flights will be operated using the modern Airbus A320, which is part of Air Arabia’s fleet of 81 single-aisle aircraft known for their efficiency and comfort.

Adel Al Ali, Group CEO of Air Arabia, emphasized the significance of the route in strengthening ties between the UAE and Ethiopia. “This new route reflects Air Arabia’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering economic and cultural ties. By expanding our destinations from Sharjah, we aim to boost trade and tourism while continuing to offer affordable and convenient travel options,” he said.

The decision to launch this route aligns with Air Arabia’s broader strategy of connecting underserved markets in Africa with the UAE. This development not only facilitates trade and investment but also creates opportunities for tourism in both regions.

Passengers on the Sharjah–Addis Ababa route can expect value-added services during their journey. Air Arabia’s Airbus A320 aircraft are equipped with “SkyTime,” a free in-flight streaming service, and “SkyCafe,” which offers a variety of meals and beverages at reasonable prices. Additionally, travelers can take advantage of the airline’s loyalty program, “Air Rewards,” allowing them to earn, transfer, and spend points on future flights.

This latest addition underscores a growing focus by UAE airlines on expanding their African networks. In late 2024, Air Arabia launched a new route from Ras Al Khaimah to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, adding to its portfolio of destinations.

Similarly, Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways have increased their frequency and destinations across Africa. Emirates now serves 20 passenger and cargo gateways across the continent, while Etihad plans to increase its African destinations to eight cities with 57 frequencies weekly by the end of 2025.
