AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) will suspend its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi, Kenya, starting Sept 1, 2025, as part of its network optimisation initiative due to lower-than-expected travel demand.

The long-haul low-cost carrier said it had notified all affected guests as early as possible regarding service recovery options (SROs) for bookings on this route for travel from Sept 1, 2025, onwards.

“The SROs – including full refund, credit account, or free-of-charge flight change for travel before Aug 31, 2025 – are aimed at assisting guests in making alternative travel arrangements,” the airline said via the AirAsia MOVE platform today.

AAX added that it continues to review it network and consumer demand, and will make adjustments from time to time to ensure commercial viability and deliver the best value fares across its network.

The airline launched its inaugural direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi on Nov 15, 2024, marking its entry into East Africa. The route currently operates four times weekly and remains the only direct air link between Malaysia and Africa.
