Tourism Minister Appoints Caretaker Team to Manage SA Tourism Board

South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, has appointed an interim caretaker team to oversee the affairs of the South African Tourism Board following its dissolution on Wednesday, 20 August.

In a statement issued by the Department of Tourism on Friday, the Minister confirmed that the step was taken in terms of section 16(3) of the Tourism Act No. 3 of 2014, which empowers her to dissolve the board and appoint members “on good cause shown” until a new board is constituted.

The newly appointed interim team comprises:

  1. Dr. Mzamo Masito – Chairperson
  2. Ms. Kholeka Zama – Deputy Chairperson
  3. Dr. Shakir Jeeva
  4. Mr. Khomotso Brian Mosehla
  5. Ms. Siobhan Leyden
  6. Dr. Shamilla Chettiar – Deputy Director-General (Department of Tourism representative)

Their term of office took effect immediately from Friday, 22 August 2025.

According to the Department, the selected members bring “collective knowledge, experience and qualifications” relevant to the functioning of the South African Tourism Board. Minister de Lille expressed her appreciation for their willingness to serve, stating that she wishes them well in their mandate.

The Minister further announced that the process to appoint a permanent board will soon be made public. In line with section 13(3) of the Tourism Act, nominations will be opened to all eligible individuals.
