Rodrigues, the smallest island in the Mascarene archipelago, is gearing up for the 26th edition of the Festival Kréol Rodrig 2025. Organized by the Commission of Arts, Culture, and Sports, with the support of the Regional Assembly, the Tourism Commission, and numerous local partners, the festival celebrates the island’s vibrant cultural heritage.
For a full week, residents and visitors will be invited to explore the heart of Rodriguan identity, enjoying a rich program of traditions, artistic expressions, and authentic craftsmanship. Under the theme “Together, Let’s Take Creole Culture Further!”, the festival runs from November 30 to Decmber 7, 2025.
The event will showcase séga tambour, along with traditional music and dances recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage since 2017. Solidarité Street in the capital, Port-Mathurin, will come alive with activity, featuring a bustling market near the historic Tourism Office and La Résidence. Local artisans, producers, and creators will display their talents in exhibitions, demonstrations, tastings, and performances under a large festival tent.

Gastronomy will also shine, offering visitors a taste of Rodrigues authentic flavors: fresh fish, grilled sausages, chicken, pork, traditional Rodriguan dishes, and Creole specialties will be served throughout the week.
A highlight of the festival is the traditional boat regatta, an iconic cultural event that usually opens the festival but will take place on the closing day, December 7, 2025. Spectators are invited to Pointe l’Herbe, in front of the Phoenix Bev headquarters, to witness the thrilling races on the turquoise lagoon.
Fishermen from different villages will compete in traditional wooden and fiberglass boats, named evocatively such as “Féros,” “St Christophe,” “Liberté,” “Félone,” “Black Mamba,” “Légionnaire,” and “Chevalier.” Propelled solely by the wind, these boats highlight centuries-old craftsmanship and exceptional navigational skills. Some will travel from remote villages on trucks at dawn and return the same evening, carrying memories of an unforgettable day. Today, the regatta is a major cultural event, bringing the community together in excitement, camaraderie, and fair competition.
The 26th edition underscores the vitality of Rodriguan Creole culture and its importance to younger generations. Visitors can look forward to a week celebrating authenticity, tradition, and shared experiences, reinforcing Rodrigues’ unique place in the Creole world of the Indian Ocean.
