Royal Air Maroc has announced a major expansion of its operations in Spain, signaling a historic step in strengthening air connectivity between Morocco and Spain. Present in the Spanish market for more than 50 years, the Moroccan national carrier continues to expand its network, offering passengers a dense and diversified range of connections between Morocco, Spain, and the rest of the world.
Following the recent launch of direct routes between Casablanca and Bilbao, and Casablanca and Alicante, the airline— a member of the oneworld alliance— is further reinforcing its network linking Morocco and Spain with new regular services between northern Moroccan cities and key Spanish destinations.
From Tetouan, three new direct routes will connect the Moroccan city with Barcelona, Málaga, and Madrid. In addition, Tangier will be linked to Málaga, Barcelona, and Madrid through three new direct connections. A seventh new regular route will connect Nador with Barcelona.
Nine Spanish Cities Now Connected to Five Moroccan Destinations
With the launch of these new routes, Royal Air Maroc now operates in nine Spanish airports—Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, Seville, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Bilbao, and Alicante—serving five Moroccan cities: Casablanca, Laayoune, Tangier, Tetouan, and Nador. The airline will operate more than 80 weekly frequencies between the two countries.
These new routes are part of Royal Air Maroc’s broader development plan, specifically its “point-to-point” strategy aimed at strengthening connectivity between major Moroccan destinations—particularly in the northern region—and key European source markets such as Spain.

The expansion comes amid strong growth in air traffic between Morocco and Spain. In 2025 alone, nearly 480,000 passengers traveled with the airline on routes between the two countries. The new services are designed to meet growing demand from various customer segments, including domestic and international tourists, Moroccan and African diasporas, and business travelers. The initiative also aims to boost economic, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
This ambitious expansion further consolidates Royal Air Maroc’s role as a strategic air bridge between Morocco and Spain. It also significantly enhances connectivity via the airline’s Casablanca hub, enabling passengers departing from Spanish cities to access the company’s extensive African and international network more easily.
50 Years of Service in Spain
With decades of continuous presence in Spain, Royal Air Maroc was among the first airlines to establish permanent air links between Morocco and Spain.
The airline’s regional headquarters in Madrid oversees several local offices covering key regions such as Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Canary Islands, allowing for broad territorial coverage and closer engagement with market stakeholders.
In addition to its own agencies, Royal Air Maroc operates a particularly dense distribution network across Spain, with thousands of sales points, reflecting the airline’s strong roots and commercial dynamism throughout the country.

Strategic Growth Plan
Royal Air Maroc’s expansion aligns with its long-term development plan (2023–2037), launched under a program agreement with the Moroccan government. The airline aims to position Casablanca as a major hub connecting Europe, West Africa, North America, and the Middle East.
By 2037, the airline plans to operate a fleet of 200 aircraft, transporting approximately 32 million passengers annually. The growth strategy includes launching 73 new destinations in Europe, 12 in Africa, 13 in the Americas, and 10 in Asia and the Middle East.
To support this expansion, the company has initiated a procurement process for up to 188 new aircraft, including Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Boeing 737 MAX jets, with the first deliveries expected before the end of 2026.
With this latest expansion in Spain, Royal Air Maroc reinforces its position as a key player in regional and intercontinental connectivity, further deepening ties between Morocco and Spain.
