The Government of Sierra Leone has announced the temporary suspension of the US$25 Airport Security Fee charged to passengers at Freetown International Airport, effective Monday, July 6, 2026.
In a public notice issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the government said the suspension follows a ministerial directive and will remain in effect until further notice.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken as the existing contract framework governing the fee collection undergoes a comprehensive review. Authorities said the temporary measure is intended to facilitate the completion of an ongoing independent Special Audit by the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) and to assess the feasibility of introducing a more seamless and integrated collection system aimed at reducing inconvenience for travellers.
The ministry stressed that the suspension does not amount to the termination of the existing operating contract. Instead, Securiport (SL) Limited will continue to maintain its core technological background operations during the interim period.

The company will also continue logging standard inbound and outbound passenger traffic data, with the exception of holders of diplomatic passports.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said it expects full compliance from all airport authorities to ensure a smooth implementation of the directive when it takes effect on July 6.
The government also expressed appreciation to the public for its cooperation as the review process continues.
The suspension is expected to provide temporary relief to passengers departing through Freetown International Airport while the government evaluates improvements to the airport security fee collection system and awaits the outcome of the special audit.
