The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) and the Agência Nacional para o Desenvolvimento e Investimento Turístico, Fundo Público (ANDITUR, FP) of Mozambique have strengthened tourism cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting collaboration in tourism marketing, investment and quality assurance.

The MoU establishes a framework to increase tourism exchanges and flows between Botswana and Mozambique, promote sustainable tourism investment, develop multi-destination tourism experiences and strengthen destination competitiveness and knowledge exchange.

Under the cooperation framework, the two institutions will collaborate in areas including tourism investment, destination marketing and promotion, tourism research and market intelligence, sustainable tourism, quality assurance, MICE tourism, air connectivity, digital tourism and skills development.

A key area of cooperation will be the development and promotion of Botswana–Mozambique multi-destination tourism experiences, combining complementary wildlife, beach and marine, cultural and adventure offerings. The partnership will also encourage collaboration among tour operators, destination management companies, airlines and other tourism businesses to develop and promote joint itineraries in selected international markets.

The MoU further provides for the exchange of tourism statistics and market intelligence, joint research, investment facilitation, investor introductions, familiarisation visits and joint marketing initiatives. It also encourages private-sector participation and partnerships to support tourism development in both destinations.

To support implementation, the two institutions will establish a Joint Technical Committee responsible for coordinating and monitoring activities under the MoU and developing a five-year plan of action.

The partnership reflects the shared commitment of Botswana and Mozambique to strengthening regional tourism cooperation and creating opportunities that support increased tourism flows, investment, innovation and sustainable tourism development.
