Within a space of two months, Red Rocks Initiatives for Sustainable Development has received two prestigious awards which recommend its vision to be a leading player in integrating tourism, conservation and sustainable community development in the wider Virunga massif. The award ceremony on 21st December 2018, held at Marriot Hotel, and organised by Rwanda Tourism Chamber recognised Red Rocks as the best community based initiative while the 24 January 2019 award ceremony held in Madrid gave Red Rocks international recognition an organisation integrating tourism, conservation and sustainable community development.

The award events are another two feathers in the cap of Red Rocks Initiatives. But importantly, they symbolise our drive to ensure the local communities living around protected areas also gain from the thriving tourism industry in their regions. From this, they inherently become protectors of our prestigious natural heritage for posterity.

Red Rocks Initiatives dedicates these awards to our partners that made it possible for the whole world to recognise the role local communities play in conservation. We also dedicate the awards to individuals who are doing everything possible to ensure that we preserve our environment. We still have some long journey to travel together. But with one step at a time, we can all strive to make this world a better place to live than we found it.
