UNWTO Secretary General reiterates commitment to Africa

The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Ambassador Zurab Pololikashvili has reaffirmed his commitment towards the development of the tourism sector in Africa.

Speaking at the high level ministerial meeting of the first UNWTO and ICAO Air Transport and Tourism in Africa held in Sal, Cabo Verde, Mr Pololikashvili said, investment in human capital was a catalyst towards the continent attaining its development goals and the UN Tourism body will be with eth continent side by side to ensure its achieve it.

‘’ Investing in human capital will be critical in the prosperity of emerging economies and UNWTO will seek to support its African members in their efforts to bolster human capital investments in the tourism sector’’

He added that Africa is the youngest continent of the world. With 60% of the population under 25 and this calls for actions to invest in the youth, to invest in the future.

The meeting assembled Ministers of Tourism and Aviation, Experts, National Tourism agencies on Tourism & Aviation, International bodies stakeholders in Santa Maria to find alternative and building synergies between the two sectors to the betterment of the African continent.

Ambassador Zurab Pololikashivili said the meeting will serve as a blueprint for UNWTO and will seek to implement it in other regions of the organizations.
