Kenya’s First lady shares the country’s conservation efforts with UNWTO

The First Lady of the Republic of Kenya her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta has shared and discussed with world leaders about the efforts being undertaken by the Government of Kenya to address threats of climate change to the well being of humanity.

During a meeting with the Secretary General of The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Mr. Zurab Pololikashvilii on the margins of the recently ended World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit in Seville, Spain, the First Lady in the company of the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Najib Balala, disclosed to the UN Tourism boss several measures including torching of ivory and rhino to deter poaching of wildlife and the commitment of the government Kenya to ensure total decline in this illegal activity.

The Secretary General of the UNWTO expressed his gratitude to Kenya’s First Lady saying her leadership and presence at the summit was laudable and a clear demonstration of Africa’s commitment to the promotion of travel and tourism as an important economic sector.

He added that Kenya has been a resilient partner for sustainable tourism development within the region and the world.

The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta also met the 44th US President Barack Obama who was the special guest of honour for the 19th meeting of the WTTC

Mrs Kenyatta has been at the forefront in championing wildlife conservation through her “ Hands off our Elephants” campaign, and delivered a keynote address at the Global Summit. She was presented with an award in recognition of her support for the global meeting and her growing contribution to growth and development of the travel and tourism sector.
