Aviation Development (AViaDev AFRICA) as part of its corporate social responsibilities introduced the AViaDev Ambassadorial Project where young /professional aviators and role models of the aviation sector in the host community /Africa are given the platform to engage captains of the aviation industry and offer solutions of the sector in Africa. They also are given the platform to pitch and speak to these aviation executives and players.
The organizers of AViaDev have seen this project grown in lips and bounds and once again during this year’s event in the century city of Cape Town announced this year’s ambassadors to delegates at the conference.
Our spotlight will be on 32 year Ugandan pilot Derek Nseko based in Port Elizabeth South Africa.
Derek walked us through his motivation in becoming a pilot.
“My dream was space travel and that is what led me to aviation. still have that dream.”
iFly started out as an awareness campaign to champion transformation in SA aviation (We were finalists for transformation at the inaugural aviation industry awards last year) and has evolved through STEM and skills development programs to a point where we see ourselves as facilitators for skills development in aviation across the African continent. A business angle that is unique and untapped. However our aviation awareness and STEM program will always take the lead in our evolution and remain our flagship initiative, maximizing social impact.
I see iFly playing a huge part in human capital development across Africa, identifying and enabling a unique talent development pipeline and being a key part of that element of Africa’s aviation growth.
