Kenya has become the latest country to bid to host the 24th World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly due to take place in 2021.

The country’s cabinet secretary for tourism and wildlife Najib Balala officially put in the bid during the organization’s 110 executive council meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In an earlier 45 seconds video posted on the minister’s official twitter account the Balala is heard making a request to members of the UNWTO to offer the East African country the opportunity to host the UNWTO General Assembly.

“We hosted one of the biggest World Trade Organisation Conferences here in Nairobi, we also happen to have hosted TICAD, as well as we hosted the Blue Economy 2018. And then we hosted the first ever UN Habitat Assembly which happened in May 2019. I take this opportunity to welcome you to Kenya so that you can be able to embrace the magic,” he said in the video.

Kenya joins Morocco and Philippines as countries who have officially submitted documents to host tourism’s biggest gathering.
The decision of the winner will be announced at the 23rd general assembly due to take place from 9-13 September, 2019 in St. Petersburg Russia.
