Connecting Africa and the US got another boost as South African Airways announced the launch of a daily service between Ghana’s capital Accra and Washington DC.

The national carrier will also be boosting African connectivity by adding another flight to their weekly schedule between Johannesburg and Accra, making it a total of 10 weekly flights.

This is the same route that experienced some technical difficulties that went viral after an American singer tweeted about her experience. However, the affected plane has already been replaced and is currently in for repairs.

This is the new schedule which will come into effect from 5 September 2019:

Dakar route temporarily suspended
As the new Accra schedule starts, the airline will also be temporarily suspending its services between Johannesburg and Dakar from the same date as they examine potential routes to the Senegalese city via Accra.

Ticketed SAA customers travelling between Johannesburg and Washington DC via Dakar’s Blaise Diagne International airport and those travelling between Johannesburg and Dakar, will be contacted and re-routed or re-accommodated as appropriate.

Welcoming these developments, SAA’s acting CEO, Zuks Ramasia, stated, “One of the key pillars of our strategy is to connect South Africa to West Africa and beyond to North America. Our partnership with Africa World Airlines (AWA) continues to deepen with these new schedules and benefits customers across the African Continent.”

“Expanding our co-operation with SAA means that passengers can enjoy quick and seamless connections between AWA and SAA flights in Accra’s new Terminal 3,” added Sean Mendis, COO at Africa World Airlines.
