Tanzania is looking to grow its tourism numbers; and with an audacious target of 2 million tourists by 2020, its main tourism agency says, it is hoping to attract visitors from other markets in addition to their traditional ones.

Recent research conducted by the Tanzanian Tourist Board (TTB) showed that the East African country inducts high numbers of Chinese visits to the country. These Asian visitors spend about 800 dollars per day and stay for at least 5 days each.

The board however believes that as turn attention to other nationals around the world, it’s on the cusp of breaking tourism market frontiers.

In an exclusive interview with VoyagesAfriq on the sidelines of this year’s Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE 2019), Justice Thomas Mihayo, Chairman of the Tanzania Tourism Board, said the country’s traditional market has always been the Americans, British and Germans and recently Sweden, Norway and Russia, however the tourist board is looking out on Southern Korea because of the market potential.

“For a country like ours where we have over 20 game parks and a lot of marine like the beach and antiquities, right now we are trying to make sure we flow with the current by trying to convince many visitors to put in high end hotels in our game park” he stated.

According to him, the country is well positioned to take care of all categories of tourists, including high end, moderate and the normal expenditure tourist.
