COVID-19 dominates latest VoyagesAfriq Travel Magazine

The March 2020 which is the twelfth edition of the VoyagesAfriq Travel Magazine (VAMag12) has been released. As expected, issues concerning the novel COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak are dominating the headlines in the latest outing.

Opening the new edition is the editorial which entreats Africans to deepen travel among themselves in the wake of the global Coronavirus outbreak. Top among the UNWTO files is the need for governments and international organisations to make tourism part of the recovery plans as espoused by the organization concerning this health crisis.

Although postponed as a result of coronavirus, a preview of the 63rd Regional Commission for Africa Meeting which was slated for March in Seychelles can be found in the latest publication. Details of over 50 million travel and tourism jobs that have been put at risk by the coronavirus epidemic as stated by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) can be read in VAMag12.

FITUR in Feature

There are also stories from this year’s FITUR and INVESTOUR which took place in Madrid, Spain. In the destination feature, South Africa’s region of Limpopo’s strategy to boost its economy using tourism is also featured in the latest edition. This year’s Meetings Africa, Uganda’s Pearl of Africa (POATE2020), opening of Magical Kenya Travel registration (MKTE2020) are some of the stories that can be found under the MICE section.

An overview of Ghana’s marketing campaign on the international stage during the first quarter of 2020 is also presented in detail in the latest publication. Again on COVID-19, Event Africa Section, produced by Partner Publication Business Events Africa looks at the effect of the pandemic on the meetings industry in Africa.

The Personality Profile section shines the light of Betty Radier, CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board. Guest Writer Fergus Maclaren wonders in his article why there aren’t many World Heritage Sites in Africa and their relevance to tourism.

Meetings Africa 2020 in pictures

Under Travel Tech, Thomas Mueller, CEO of Rainmaker Africa examines the changing phase of hospitality and tourism distribution on the continent in his contribution to the latest installment. AU-NEPAD pledge to support youth-driven tourism initiatives is also captured here.

There are a myriad of happenings within the hospitality space which are prominently featured. Key among the stories that can be found under the hospitality news section is the appointment Prof. Marina Novelli as an Independent Advisor on AirBnB’s taskforce.
