VoyagesAfriq Travel Media and AViaDev have partnered to produce Tourism Webinars.

A staggering one million jobs are being lost every day in the Travel & Tourism sector due to the sweeping effect of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Tourism is in total global shutdown.

The UNWTO, United Nations specialized agency for tourism expects that international tourist arrivals will be down by 20% to 30% in 2020 when compared with 2019 figures.

As the world is still battling to find panacea to the novel coronavirus (covid-19) ravaging covid19, the effects on economic activities and especially tourism cannot be overemphasized.

The tourism industry is virtually reinventing itself, from online museum tours and alluring destination online promotions, to webcams sharing views of the situation from their ‘’lockdown’’ locations.

In his letter to the tourism fraternity, the President of World Tourism Forum Lucerne, Prof Martin Barth ask ‘’ What will we learn from the crisis? Will tourism after the crisis be different to before? Will other, previously ignored values suddenly hold greater significance? Will there be a higher demand for staycations, nature tourism, sustainability and locally-sourced food?

The objective of the webinar is to bring the conversation and the way forward in this time of adversity to the tourism stakeholders at home. Panellists will constitute experienced policy analysts, operators and Heads of National tourism boards and other allied institutions.

Experts and Governments have predicted that, the world will never be the same and the Tourism Webinar will try to seek answers with experts and players on the African continent about the best way to navigate this situation.

The maiden ‘’Tourism Webinar ‘’ will have the privilege of being joined by the CEO of South African Tourism Sisa Ntshona, Anita Mendiratta- Founder of Anita Mendiratta and Associates and Adviser to UNWTO SG, Judy Kepher-Gona, Dr Carmen Nibigira- Tourism Policy Analyst and Chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Federation Mohammed Hersi.

It will be co-hosted by Kojo Bentum-Williams and Jon Howell. Join us on Friday 3rd April 2020 10:00GMT on the link below.
