A 10-page brief document on Namibia’s gastronomy has been launched in Namibia’s coast of Swakopmund.
It is said that a nation’s gastronomy is its best ambassador.
The book offers travelers and visitors the best of Namibia’s sumptuous cuisines as well as recipe to get the southern African dish at home.
The book titled “A taste of Namibia’s Gastronomy “ gives an insight into Namibia’s cuisines as well as recipes to prepare at home.
An initiative of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Namibian government, the project was spearheaded by Namibia’s Ambassador to France, Spain and UNWTO Ambassador Albertus Aochamub. He told VoyagesAfriq that, Namibia has so much to offer the world and was delighted to engage UNWTO to document a significant part of the country’s culture.
Speaking at an evening launch to present the book, the Secretary-General of UNWTO Zurab Pololikashvili reiterated the need for Africa’s diverse tourism and most importantly gastronomy be given priority.
He narrated a story of how in spite of the continent’s diverse culinary offerings, it’s difficult to find African foods in the world.
He said, he was happy to launch the gastronomy booklet and hope that it will serve as a point of reference for many and thus helping promote tourism to the country.
The UNWTO is embarking on a project which will see the UN organization develop a comprehensive book on Africa’s gastronomy as a way to selling African cuisines to the world.
A seasoned chef from Namibia, Nelson Kanangure was featured in the booklet and he recounts his journey of becoming a chef. He spent time explaining why Namibia offers you a sumptuous selection of foods and additions as its winery and local brewery.
The Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili and his delegation just concluded a working state visit to Namibia as it supports the tourism revival of the country and giving confidence to the sector to restart in a safe and responsible way.
