Tunisia has launched a nationwide programme to have its tourism sector workers vaccinated against Covid-19. The vaccination will cover all categories of workers within the tourism, hospitality and aviation sector.

The country’s Minister of Tourism, Mr. Habib Ammar, said at the launch of the programme on June 4, that the vaccination is being rolled out as part of the implementation of Tunisia’s National Strategy for Virus Vaccination with tourism as the third priority sector.

“We appreciate the decision of the National Committee against Coronavirus to classify the tourism among the priority sectors for vaccination considering that workers in the tourism sector are at direct risk of coming into contact with the virus,” he said.

The minister emphasized that the vaccination process will enable the workers of the tourism sector and their family members, as well as visitors, travel around with limited restrictions and also allow for the reopening of hostels and other hospitality facilities which were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Habib Ammar also emphasized that, “the start of vaccination of the tourism sector workers will send reassuring message and motivate travel and tourism operators in their traditional markets to schedule flights to Tunisia as a destination in the days ahead.”
