Algeria’s Government has appointed Yacine Hammadi as the North African country’s new Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts.

He replaces Mohamed Ali Boughazi, who leaves the government after the latest reshuffle by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

At a handing over ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, in the presence of the sector’s executives, the new Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the confidence he had put in him to manage this sector which is considered a strategic and important sector, as well as a driver of economic development and growth.

Hammadi pledged to “continue efforts and work to propose a plan that qualifies the sector to face-up to the current challenges through the integration and cooperation with all actors.”

The Minister also expressed his readiness “to intensify work to promote domestic tourism and exploit its various components in order to market the Algerian destination locally and internationally.”

Algeria is the largest country in Africa; one of the main tourist attractions is the Sahara, the second largest desert in the world. Algeria has been a member of the World Tourism Organization since 1976.
