Namibia is set to hold an investment session aimed at attracting investors to its tourism sector on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland.

The session dubbed “Invest in Namibian Tourism” is co-hosted by the country’s Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Forestry Pohamba Shifeta.

It’s scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the event on 25th May 2022 at Namibia House, Promenade 61 7270, Davos, Switzerland

The forum is targeting Development finance institutions and multilateral development banks, project developers, buyers/off-takers, financial institutions, the Namibian government and stakeholders.

‘’The goal of the event is to present strategic investment opportunities in the tourism sector and to present the government tourism recovery strategy for the sector. We will be joined by leaders from across the public and private sector aiming to unlock opportunities for investment into the tourism sector and to promote brand Namibia as a tourism destination.’’ An invitation statement from the embassy said.

Pre- Covid-19, the contribution of tourism to the national GDP was about U$445 million, the third-largest contributor after mining and agriculture. The government firmly believes that with further investments into the sector and unearthing the unexploited potential, the sector can grow further and contribute more to the country’s GDP in a post-COVID-19 economy.

The session has assembled some of the fine brains in its tourism sector to offer insight of the market and also opportunities that exist in the country. Veteran media personality Michelle McClean will moderate the session with DR. MATTHIAS NGWANGWAMA -Managing Director Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), MR. SVEN THIEME Executive Chairman O&L Group , DIGU //NAOBEB -CEO: Namibia Tourism Board, and the Ministry’s Director of Tourism and Gaming SEBULON C. CHICALU as guests for the session.

Namibia has a competitive tourist destination given its beautiful landscapes, its wildlife resources and diversity of experiences – this has made Namibia to be a global premier destination for eco-tourism. In order to further establish ourselves as a premium tourism destination, the Government of Namibia believes that a number of opportunities present themselves to achieve this objective, such as: the facilitation of investment in infrastructure and initiatives to diversify our tourism products.
