International Tourism Fair of Mozambique ”Fikani” makes a return

The National Institute of Tourism of Mozambique INATUR has announced the return of its flagship Tourism Expo, the International Tourism Fair of Mozambique (FIKANI).

INATUR confirms the Tourism fair will be held from 13-15 October 2022 at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Center in an area of 2,000 m2 in the country’s capital, Maputo.

The theme for this year’s event is Tourism as a Factor of Economic Revitalization.

Fikani is considered the most prestigious point of business and meeting point between companies and national tourist institutions with their counterparts in the southern region of Africa and other parts of the world.

The Director General of the Institute Marco Dos Anjos in an interview with VoyagesAfriq said with the scrapping of the mask mandate and easing of covid-19 protocols following the vaccination progress in Mozambique, FIKANI will further help in the acceleration of tourism recovery efforts.

Touching on Mozambique’s state of tourism, Mr. Anjos added that, the latest tourism arrival figures confirm the tourism sector is making a great recovery.

‘’If we compare this year’s first quarter international tourists arrivals and receipts with 2021, you will realized that there has been an appreciation of 60% and 15% increment in arrivals and receipts respectively. We recorded 149,000 international arrivals in 2022 compared with 94,000 arrivals in 2021. In receipt terms, we moved from US$25 million in 2021 to US$29.5 million in 2022’’ the Director General revealed.

President Felipe Nyusi of Mozambique is expected to open this year’s event.

INATUR is expecting 185 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors to attend the show.

Fikani is expected to offer the platform to present the best of Mozambique through its culture, the exhibition of works and handicrafts, gastronomy, and entertainment.
