Malawi’s Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule has launched this year’s Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE2023) in a press briefing in the capital, Lilongwe. Also known as ‘Takulandirani,’ the event returns after a three-year breather as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Expo which makes a return after 3 years due to the coronavirus pandemic will assemble the tourism industry from key source markets as well as international travel media.

Scheduled for 26th to 27th April, at the Bingu Wa Mutharika International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe and it is expected to draw participants and buyers from Southern, East Africa, and Malawi’s tourism source markets in Europe, Asia and North America.

Exhibitors will have the chance to network with buyers and bookers of tourism products and services, establish business partnerships through business to business and speed networking sessions and showcase their destination, products and services.

So far 45 buyers and 12 members of the travel media from the USA, UK, Germany, South Africa, Zambia, and other countries are expected to attend, network and establish partnerships with Malawi’s tourism industry. They will also an opportunity to experience the country on tours.

Takulandirani will also offer opportunities for patrons to acquire knowledge about different source markets, interact with travel media, meet other destinations, and engage in well-informed workshops.

The return of the expo this year gives further impetus to Malawi’s recovery efforts. Last year, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera unveiled a $660 million tourism investment masterplan in a bid to reinvigorate the sector.
