Themba Khumalo, Acting CEO of South African Tourism (SAT), has resigned from his position.

Khumalo tendered his resignation as SA Tourism’s chief marketing officer, and current acting chief executive officer, on Friday May 5, 2023.

Responding to a media query by VoyaagesAfriq, the interim board of SA Tourism noted that Mr Khumalo’s resignation was to take effect immediately.

Following the resignation, SA Tourism Board at a board meeting held on May 6, 2023,  accepted Khumalo’s resignation with immediate effect.

“We wish Mr. Khumalo all the best in his future endeavours.” the Board said to Khumalo, who did not give specific reasons for his resignation.

In response to the development, which is happening a few days to the opening of this year’s Africa’s Travel Indaba, the SAT Board has appointed Nomasonto Ndlovu to the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer, in concurrence with her role as Chief Operating Officer.

In the same vein, Bronwen Auret has been appointed as acting Chief Marketing Officer, in concurrence with her role as Chief Quality Assurance Officer.

South African Tourism further cleared the air that the resignation will not destabilize the organization, especially coming on the eve of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2023.

……Africa’s Travel Indaba still on course

“The Board was fully briefed on the arrangements for Africa’s Travel Indaba last Friday and had an extensive update from Ms. Ndlovu and her team this morning. We have full confidence in the planning process and look forward to welcoming the world to Durban to celebrate and accelerate the rise of Africa as the world’s most exciting travel destination,” the Board assured.
