6th ATLF in Gaborone kicks off with engaging trading and training day

The highly anticipated Africa Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF2023) commenced with a vibrant day of trading and training at the Gaborone International Convention Centre. Themed “Transformational Entrepreneurship and Intra-Africa Business to Business Networking Sessions,” this prelude to the main event featured insightful presentations by industry experts.

Hamza Farooqui, CEO and Founder of Millat Investments, shared valuable insights into tourism entrepreneurship, while Wambugu Wa Gichohi, a renowned Franchise Consultant and Expert, delved into the intricacies of franchising in the tourism sector. These engaging presentations paved the way for interactive sessions on these themes, led by esteemed professionals, including Barry Clemens, CEO of Hospitality EQ, and Dan D’souza, Senior Manager of Intrapreneurship from the United Kingdom.

A highlight of the day was a special session on “Women in Tourism Entrepreneurship,” presented by the University of South Africa (UNISA). The discussion centered on the promising realm of Agritourism and explored opportunities within the broader tourism industry. Key topics included the development of sustainable tourism businesses that are attuned to the needs of local communities and clients.

Additionally, the day featured destination showcases, highlighting the rich offerings of countries such as Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana, DR Congo, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion Islands, and Seychelles.

ATLF2023 promises three more days of thought-provoking discussions and networking opportunities. With over 600 delegates in attendance, this pan-African thought leadership event in the tourism sector is poised to address critical issues that will shape the future of Africa’s travel and tourism industry.
