The Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) announced the hosting of the second edition of the Travel , Hospitality & Tourism Education Summit scheduled for the 15th -17th April 2024 with the expected participation of UN Tourism Secretary General H.E Mr Zurab Pololikashvili.
Zambia in 2023 as a member country of the UN Tourism endorsed and begun the implementation of the UN World Tourism Education guidelines and is positioning to be a lead country in industry education.
The announcement was made by the ZITHS Governing Council Chairperson Ms. Mulemwa Moongwa in Madrid , Spain during the ongoing FITUR, (the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair) which is the first global meeting point of the year for tourism professionals. She was making a presentation during the fifth (5th) FITUR Talent Conference that is a platform designed to amplify the value of talent and training in tourism development.
In December 2023, Zambia , through the Ministry of Education successfully integrated Travel & Tourism as a subject pathway in the revised Zambia Education Curriculum Framework (ZECF). ZITHS will utilise the Education Summit to garner international involvement in developing a best practice model for working with the school system at all levels to address the challenges and opportunities related to developing a workforce pipeline for the sector.
