Nabeela Tunis to Host African Ministers of Tourism in Freetown, Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Hon. Nabeela F. Tunis on Tuesday 1st October, 2024 held bi-lateral meetings with UN Tourism staff and Africa Leaders in the Tourism ecosystem on the margins of the 1st UN Tourism Africa and Americas Summit in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Discussions centered around the 1st UN Women in Tourism Regional Congress scheduled to take place in Freetown on 29th- 31st October, 2024.

Elicia Grandcourt Director, Regional Department for Africa, UN Tourism expressed her delight to see the enthusiasm in Hon. Tunis and the rapid transformation of the Tourism industry in Sierra Leone within a very short period. She committed to supporting the country host this epoch making event and further empower women in the tourism sector.
Ms. Mulomwa MOONGWA, Chairperson, Zambia Institute of Hospitality and Ms. Anne Kaoma, Executive Director, ZITHs have all committed to be in Sierra Leone in the next few weeks.

Hon. Tunis confirmed the participation of five Ministers of Tourism as at 1st October and looking forward to more letters of confirmation from other colleagues in the continent.

She also reaffirmed the government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to wave the airport security fees of USD 50 for all delegates coming into Sierra Leone for the Regional Congress. She also disclosed government’s plan to provide free accommodation to all Resource persons invited for the Congress.
