Zambia reaffirms commitment to Tourism growth at Africa’s Travel Indaba

At Africa’s Travel Indaba (ATI) 2025, Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Hon. Rodney Sikumba, reinforced the government’s dedication to advancing the country’s tourism sector and establishing Zambia as a preferred global destination. The event, held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, brought together industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to explore opportunities for sustainable tourism growth.

Minister Sikumba, speaking upon arrival in Durban, highlighted the strong participation of Zambian private sector players as a testament to the nation’s collective drive to elevate its tourism profile. “The significant presence of Zambian businesses at this premier trade show demonstrates our shared commitment to unlocking the sector’s potential,” he said. “Their engagement will amplify Zambia’s visibility and attract meaningful investment.”

The Minister’s itinerary includes high-level bilateral discussions with key stakeholders, focusing on strategic partnerships, market expansion, and investment in Zambia’s diverse tourism offerings. These engagements align with the government’s broader agenda to harness tourism as a catalyst for economic development.

Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Mrs. Inonge Mwenya, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in driving sustainable tourism. “Africa’s Travel Indaba is more than a trade exhibition—it is a platform for economic empowerment,” she noted. “By bringing together global industry players, we can celebrate Africa’s heritage while creating tangible opportunities for growth.”

This year, the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) is leading a delegation of 41 local tourism operators, showcasing the country’s unique attractions—from the majestic Victoria Falls to its rich cultural heritage and wildlife sanctuaries. As one of Africa’s premier travel exhibitions, ATI provides an invaluable opportunity for Zambia to engage with international buyers, media, and investors.

Preceding the main event, the Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONDay) facilitated thought leadership discussions on emerging tourism trends, further enriching the dialogue on sustainable and inclusive sector growth.

In reaffirming government support, Minister Sikumba’s presence serves as a signal of Zambia’s long-term vision for tourism—not as a peripheral economic sector, but as a driver of jobs, sustainability, and international positioning.
