Today, on International Tour Guides Day, I would like to sincerely thank every tour guide across Seychelles for the incredible work you do each day. You are not only showing visitors our beautiful beaches and landscapes; you are sharing the heart and soul of who we are as a nation.

As custodians of our history, culture, and identity, you carry the important responsibility of telling our stories with care, honesty, and pride.

I am pleased that we have begun this year’s activities with the inaugural events marking the abolition of slavery, including a special workshop bringing tour guides together to learn and reflect. This represents a meaningful step forward.

We must continue to deepen our knowledge of Seychelles’ slavery heritage. We must honour the resilience and legacy of our enslaved ancestors, whose strength and courage helped shape the nation we are proud of today.

The activities organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture for this year’s celebration, including the structured site visit to Petit Boileau, will help us better understand and honour our shared history.

Thank you for being passionate cultural ambassadors. You help ensure that tourism in Seychelles remains meaningful, sustainable, and grounded in respect for our past.

I encourage you to keep learning, growing, and strengthening your understanding of our heritage so that every story you share reflects dignity, respect, and historical truth.

Happy International Tour Guides Day.

Amanda Bernstein

Minister for Tourism and Culture
