Ghana has taken a decisive step to accelerate the long-anticipated Accra Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project, as the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, inaugurated a Technical Committee to steer its implementation.
The ceremony, held at the Ministry in Accra, signals renewed momentum for the ambitious project, which seeks to transform the capital’s waterfront into a world-class hub for tourism, leisure and commerce after years of delays.
Addressing stakeholders, Gomashie acknowledged past setbacks linked to planning and administrative hurdles but expressed confidence that the project is now firmly back on track under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama. She described the formation of the Technical Committee as a crucial intervention to fast-track delivery, stressing the need for efficiency, coordination and strict compliance with regulatory frameworks.
“You have a crucial task over the next 18 to 24 months to ensure that processes are expedited, bureaucratic bottlenecks are addressed, and all stakeholders work together to achieve the objectives of the project,” she stated.
She added that the Marine Drive Project holds significant potential to boost tourism, generate employment, and stimulate economic growth, while strengthening Ghana’s cultural and creative arts sector. The Minister also underscored the importance of strong collaboration across ministries and agencies, urging committee members to demonstrate professionalism, integrity and confidentiality in executing their duties.
The Technical Committee, chaired by Deputy Minister Yussif Issaka Jajah, brings together representatives from key government institutions and the private sector, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Ghana Tourism Development Company, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Lands Commission, utility providers, and project consultants.
The committee is tasked with offering technical guidance, enhancing inter-agency coordination, resolving implementation bottlenecks, and ensuring the project is delivered on schedule, within budget, and aligned with national development priorities. Its initial mandate spans 18 to 24 months, with the possibility of extension.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Jajah thanked the Minister for the confidence placed in the team and pledged their commitment to delivering on the project’s objectives.
“We will adhere to the terms of reference and work diligently to ensure that the timelines, objectives, and targets of the Marine Drive Project are achieved,” he said, while calling for strong cooperation among members to guarantee success.
The Accra Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project remains a flagship government initiative aimed at attracting private investment, modernising infrastructure, and revitalising economic activity along Accra’s coastline. With the inauguration of the Technical Committee, stakeholders are expressing renewed optimism that the transformative project will finally be realised, reshaping the city’s coastal landscape and advancing sustainable development.
