Elephant Hills Resort has announced the deferral of its planned major refurbishment works in recognition of Zimbabwe’s role as a co-host of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, a move aimed at safeguarding accommodation capacity during one of the continent’s most significant global sporting events.

The Victoria Falls-based resort was originally scheduled to close in November 2026 for an 18-month refurbishment and rebranding programme, with reopening planned for Q2 2028. However, the property will now remain fully operational throughout 2026 and 2027 to support the anticipated influx of international visitors, teams, media and fans associated with the tournament.

Zimbabwe will be co-hosting the Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia. This decision ensures that Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe’s flagship leisure destination, retains essential room inventory at a time when global exposure and visitor demand are expected to peak. As cricket fans extend their stays beyond match schedules, Victoria Falls is well positioned to benefit from pre- and post-event leisure travel.

Located just ten minutes from the Victoria Falls Rainforest, Elephant Hills Resort offers expansive views and a resort-style experience anchored by one of the destination’s most distinctive assets – an 18-hole championship golf course, where wildlife roams freely across the fairways. The resort also features a driving range and pro shop, extensive recreational facilities, multiple dining options, a large swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, bowling greens, a gymnasium, spa and a fully equipped business centre.

Guests benefit from a complimentary shuttle service operating four times daily into Victoria Falls town and the rainforest, reinforcing the resort’s appeal to both leisure and business travellers.

Owners African Sun have confirmed that while the refurbishment has been postponed, the commitment to upgrade the property remains firm. The planned works will commence immediately after the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup, with a focus on enhancing guest experience, modernising facilities and strengthening the resort’s long-term market positioning.

From a destination management perspective, the deferment reflects the growing alignment between hospitality investment decisions and national tourism priorities. By remaining operational during the World Cup period, Elephant Hills Resort plays a strategic role in supporting Zimbabwe’s visibility on the global stage, while laying the foundation for its next phase of renewal once the tournament concludes.
