The Government of Togo has announced a major new policy granting visa-free entry to citizens of all African countries holding valid national passports, in a move aimed at strengthening African integration and easing movement across the continent.

According to an official communiqué issued by Togo’s Ministry of Security on Monday, 18 May 2026, the exemption takes immediate effect and allows eligible African travellers to enter Togo without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.

The statement said the decision was taken by the President of the Council and reflects the Togolese government’s commitment to promoting African unity, enhancing the free movement of people and goodsand deepening cooperation among African states and peoples.

Authorities described the measure as part of a broader vision to position Togo as a regional hub for services, business, culture and human exchange at the heart of Africa.

The government further noted that the visa waiver demonstrates Togo’s continued commitment to Pan-African ideals, continental solidarity and regional integration efforts related to mobility within Africa.

Despite the removal of visa requirements, the Ministry of Security stressed that travellers must still comply with immigration, security and public health regulations applicable at entry points into the country.

Officials also clarified that pre-arrival registration procedures remain mandatory. Travellers are required to complete an online travel declaration through the government platform,  at least 24 hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel document to be presented at border posts.

The communiqué added that the visa exemption does not override laws concerning irregular entry, illegal stay, or national security measures. Relevant government agencies and border authorities have been instructed to ensure the effective implementation of the policy across land, air, and sea entry points.
