President Denis Sassou Nguesso has announced that citizens of all African countries will be allowed to enter the Republic of the Congo without visas starting January 1, 2027, in a move aimed at promoting greater continental integration and free movement across Africa.

Speaking during celebrations to mark Africa Day on Monday, President Sassou Nguesso said the decision reflects the country’s commitment to African unity and cooperation.

“I take this solemn occasion to announce today that, as of Jan. 1, 2027, entry into the Republic of the Congo will no longer be subject to visas for all African peoples,” he stated.

The Congolese leader also called for easier movement of people across the continent and reiterated his support for the introduction of a single African passport.

The Republic of the Congo now joins a growing list of African countries that are easing or removing visa restrictions for fellow Africans as part of broader efforts to strengthen regional integration, intra-African trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections. Countries including Rwanda, Ghana, Benin, Seychelles and The Gambia have introduced various visa-free or visa-on-arrival policies for African travellers in recent years.
