Visitors to Seychelles this week can experience the islands’ vibrant culture through the Tourism Village and Local Food Fest, one of the highlights of the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations marking the 50th Anniversary of Independence.

Open until 30 June at the Jubilee Expo Village, the event offers an authentic introduction to Seychellois life through traditional cuisine, local crafts, music and cultural performances, inviting visitors to discover the people and traditions that shape the destination.

Opening the Tourism Village, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mrs Amanda Jane Bernstein, said the initiative reflects Seychelles’ commitment to preserving its cultural identity while enriching the visitor experience.

“Our natural beauty may inspire people to visit Seychelles, but it is our culture and our people that create lasting memories. The Tourism Village celebrates the traditions, creativity and hospitality that define our islands, while ensuring that tourism continues to generate opportunities for local communities and safeguard our cultural heritage.”

The Minister added that culture plays an essential role in the country’s long-term tourism vision.

“As we celebrate fifty years as an independent nation, we are looking to the future with confidence. By placing culture at the heart of our tourism offering, we continue to build a destination that is authentic, sustainable and true to its identity.”

Seychelles Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer, Ms Vesna Rakic, said the Tourism Village forms part of the destination’s Creole Rendezvous programme, designed to connect visitors with genuine Seychellois experiences.

“Today’s travellers are looking for meaningful experiences that allow them to connect with local people and traditions. The Tourism Village offers exactly that, whether through our cuisine, our artisans or our cultural performances, while supporting the talented individuals and small businesses that bring these experiences to life.”

From traditional Creole dishes and locally crafted products to live music and artisan demonstrations, the Tourism Village offers visitors an opportunity to experience the warmth and diversity of Seychellois culture during this milestone celebration.

As Seychelles marks fifty years of Independence, the Tourism Village highlights the country’s commitment to offering visitors authentic experiences that celebrate its people, heritage and distinctive island way of life.
