TAAG Angola Airlines will launch a new Luanda–Dakar–Praia service on October 31, establishing a long-awaited direct air link between Angola and Cape Verde while expanding the carrier’s footprint in West Africa.
The new route will connect Luanda, Dakar in Senegal, and Praia in Cape Verde, creating an additional air bridge between three markets with longstanding historical, institutional, economic and people-to-people ties.
TAAG President of the Board of Directors, Clóvis Rosa, said the new service reinforces the airline’s role as Angola’s flag carrier and supports greater integration across African markets.
“This new route materializes a long-awaited connection between Angola and Cape Verde and represents another step in strengthening air connectivity on the African continent,” Rosa said.
The Luanda–Dakar–Praia service has received approval from the relevant aviation authorities. Angola’s National Authority for Civil Aviation (ANAC) has received confirmation from Senegal’s National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) authorising TAAG to operate commercial air services on the route.
The launch coincides with the beginning of the IATA Winter 2026/2027 season.
TAAG has also been formally designated by Angola’s ANAC to operate air services between Angola and Cape Verde under the countries’ Bilateral Air Services Agreement, providing the institutional framework for the new connection.
Dakar strengthens West Africa network
The inclusion of Dakar gives the new service a broader regional dimension, positioning it as both a link between Angola and Cape Verde and an opportunity to strengthen TAAG’s connectivity across West Africa.
Rosa said the airline aims to enhance Luanda’s role as an important aviation gateway on the continent.
“Dakar adds a strategic dimension to this operation. We are strengthening TAAG’s presence in Africa and building connections that make our network more relevant to passengers and to economic and institutional relations between the countries we serve,” he said.
The new route also supports the objectives of the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), which seek to advance the liberalisation, integration and development of air transport across the continent.
With the launch of the Luanda–Dakar–Praia service, TAAG will add Cape Verde to its destination network, deepen Angola’s links with West Africa and further position its network as a platform for greater intra-African connectivity.
