Zimbabwe’s Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality, Priscah Mupfumira has urged Zimbabwean diasporans in London to visit and explore the vast opportunities their home country is offering to the world.

The Minister, who made the appeal at the Disaporan reception held in London also reminded the disaporans to constantly “spread the good news” about Zimbabwe to the world.

“I want us to end on a happy Note by launching the Diaspora Homecoming Tour which I am inviting all the diasporas to come home and seek the vast opportunities that your country is offering to the world. From a tourism point of view, all people in the diaspora, we look at you as our brand ambassadors. We expect you to work very closely with us and spread the good news about your country…” the Minister said.

While launching the UK Diaspora Homecoming Tour, the also Minister reminded diasporans of the critical role they play in Zimbabwe’s government’s efforts to revive the economy and boosting tourism.

“Ladies and gentlemen there is no doubt that the Zimbabwean Diaspora are absolutely key to achieving tourism development and will continue to play a critical role in our efforts to revive our economy.

“The government is cognisant of the role that its people in the diaspora can play in the economy. As outlined by Ambassador Katsande in my last visit to London we earnestly would like to work very closely with this very important community and we would like to take this further and involve you in our investment drive in all sectors of the economy.”

Madam Mupfumira also disclosed that negotiations between the Zimbabwean government and RwandAir are underway to ensure a successful organization of the 2019 homecoming tour which is most likely to take place during the first quarter of 2019.

The Minister’s call on diasporans comes months after President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on the global platform of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland that his country was open for business.
