Serena Hotels Uganda continues to focus its efforts on ensuring that it supports initiatives that make a tangible and positive difference within the communities around its Hotels.

From gender inequalities, forced marriages to the stigma of menstruation, negative forces continue to prevent girls from realizing their full potential. These challenges are exacerbated by poverty pausing insidious consequences on the outcome of over 3.75 million girls’ lives in Uganda.

For 30 days leading up to Christmas, SERENA HOTELS UGANDA’s Management in partnership with SMART GIRLS UGANDA and ZIMBE COLLECTIONS by DAVID KIBUUKA will drive a campaign to provide over 100 “SMART” bags to girls in a school nominated by our staff member.

To give back to the ever so loyal staff of the Hotel, all employees were invited to nominate a primary or secondary school of their choice – from within their neighborhoods that they believed would significantly benefit from the “Keep a Girl in School” initiative.

A raffle conducted on the 14th of November drew Kisowera Secondary School in Naama Sub County – Mukono District as the identified school to support. The nominator is Chef Fredrick Kazungu – A Food Production Chef in the Pearl Restaurant and Champagne Bar.

To mark the start of the Christmas and New Year festivities, Serena Hotels together with former beneficiaries of the SMART GIRLS Foundation, its staff, Hotel Guests will turn on the glowing lights of the iconic Christmas tree on the 15th of November. Isaac Kazinda will lead the congregants in melodious Christmas Carol.

With this campaign, we aim to:-
 To lend our Brand’s Voice to the Millennium Development Goals.
 To empower girls to access the resources they desperately need like Menstrual Hygiene, Sexual Reproductive Health and ultimately – education that will enable them find their way out of poverty.
 Solicit for support from our guests, clients, supporters to sponsor selected vulnerable girls facing some of the gravest challenges and stigma.
 Create and increase advocacy for a girl child’s challenges.
 To break the cycle of gender inequality.
 To illustrate that a small commitment like a SMART BAG can make a seismic impact on a girl’s power to dictate the terms of her own life.

 To use #KeepAGirlInSchool to create, ignite, and track the conversation on all social media platforms.
 To offer our staff a direct opportunity to participate and benefit from our festive CSR.
