WTM Africa has partnered with idea architects, idna to unleash the power of storytelling at the inaugural WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards that will be held in April next year. The Awards will recognise the exceptional work of individuals and businesses in sharing the compelling tales of the African continent, with the world.

idna is the official Ideas Agency for the 2020 WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards. With a passion for powerful creative thinking and 20 years’ international experience, idna is the perfect partner for an event focused entirely on one of Africa’s most ancient traditions: storytelling.

“We naturally connected with storytelling as the most organic way to celebrate the best in African travel and tourism. Storytelling is one of Africa’s richest traditions and is the only medium to do justice to the continent’s rich history, culture, natural beauty and people,” said Tamlynne Wilton-Gurney, Chief Ideas Officer at idna.

The theme for the Awards, ‘Under African Skies’ brings the continent’s rich storytelling tradition to life. It celebrates the storytellers that capture the essence of Africa, inspiring a spirit for adventure in people from around the world. They tell stories that journey across oceans and borders, bringing Africa’s vibrancy and mystery to life.

Megan Oberholzer, Portfolio Director: Travel, Tourism & Sport Portfolio at Reed Exhibitions, said that the WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards’ focus on storytelling is geared entirely around sharing the African travel story with the world. “People seek out experiences on their travels that enrich their lives – and we want to share the stories of the travel partners who facilitate these life-altering experiences for millions of people from around the world, each year.

The inaugural Awards celebrate the best of national, regional and city tourist boards and recognises outstanding private sector companies and individuals in 12 categories, judged by an independent panel of industry experts. The categories for the 2020 WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards are:
