Cabo Verde says it is currently engaging the services of a global consultancy to fashion appropriate health safety and security measures as they get preparations underway to receive visitors and tourists.

The West African country is hoping to open its borders to visitors next July given that European and other countries would also open up for outbound and inbound travels.

“Tourism, from now on, will have to respect a set of rules with an emphasis on health security in order
to guarantee the visitor a safe environment and demonstrate that Cabo Verde is able to become a
destination that meets these requirements”, the country’s Tourism and Transport Ministry said in a communique.

The Government of Cabo Verde, through the Ministry of Tourism and Transport also stated that it has taken into account the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and is urgently developing a package of fundamental measures with the aim of mitigating the impact of the adverse effects on the economy and promote the resumption of economic activity, in a safe and consistent manner.

“In this context, an important international consultancy has been hired and it is working on a broad health security program in the country, encompassing several sectors of the Economy, with an emphasis on Tourism and Transport, with a view to minimizing the risks of infection by Covid-19 and reinforcing the conditions for the reopening of tourism this summer, ” the statement added.

Cape Verde – Safe Tourism

The country has also developed and is implementing a concept dubbed, “Cabo Verde – Safe Tourism.”
This consists of a set of good practices, procedures and protocols, in compliance with World Health Organization (WHO) rules; authorization criteria for travel, hygiene procedures for airplanes, transfers, airports, taxis, hotels, restaurants, bars, services, norms for the concentration of people, medical treatment units, specialized medical personnel, etc., using the international consultancy to guarantee health security conditions in the country.

Actors within Cabo Verde tourism and transportation sectors will be issued with a Health Security Seal as part of the implementation process to guarantee the safety of visitors to all the islands of the country.
