The newly appointed Director General of Côte d’Ivoire Tourism, Malékah Mourad-Condé, has urged the tourism sector to make digitalization and training of sanitary protocols key priorities in restarting the tourism sector.

She made this statement on the occasion of the recently held 41st World Tourism Day celebrations held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

‘’The digitalization of operational processes and training on health protocols within the value chain must be at the heart of the professionalization of tourism operators’’. Mrs Mourad- Conde said.

Touching on this year’s theme, Tourism for Inclusive Growth, Mrs Mourad- Conde said tourism’s ability to carry everyone along is in tandem with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She stated that, making tourism accessible to the disabled, low-income class, young people, students, minority groups, among others must be pursued by African governments.

She called on the United Nations to support African destinations in their vaccination drive since it is the only way to accelerating a global tourism restart.

In rounding up her statement, the Director General applauded the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the publication of the new guidelines to ensure accessibility and inclusion.

Ms. Malékah Mourad-Condé officially took office on Monday September 20 at the General Directorate of Côte d’Ivoire Tourism.
