Botswana turns attention to Makgadikgadi Epic Fiesta

After a successful return of the Toyota Gazoo desert race a fortnight ago in the mining town of Jwaneng, Botswana, preparations have moved into top gear to stage another exciting adventure sports event dubbed Makgadikgadi Epic.

The destination is further consolidating its recent wins and focusing on events particularly sports tourism to drive growth.

The Makgadikgadi Epic, a sport and adventure tourism event with activities such as Skydiving and tandem jumps, Fun Quad biking, horse riding, and camping is scheduled for the 14 – 16 July 2023 in Sua Pan, approximately 20 (Twenty) kilometers from Sowa Town.

The world-renowned adventure sports fiesta is geared towards promoting adventure tourism and destination marketing will offer the adventure traveler three (3) days of Epic Skydiving above the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.

The event is organised by the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) in partnership with the Parachute Association of Botswana (PAB), hosted by BOTASH in collaboration with the Sowa Township Council & Tutume Sub-District.

Botswana as part of its recovery of the tourism sector and a new focus has made MICE a cardinal pillar of its strategy. The Government sees it as an initiative undertaken to stimulate local travel, encourage local participation, and develop new tourism products for diversifying the product offering away from wildlife-based products, particularly in the Northern part of the country.

Other lined up activities as part of the festival is the skydiving event, with the public expected to participate at a cost in tandem skydiving with professionals, fun Quad rides, Helicopter flips around the Pans, fun horse rides, jet ski and hoover craft the enjoy the scenery the Makgadikgadi Pans offers.
