Malawi’s Sunbird Tourism initiates K8 billion state-of-the-art conference facility

Sunbird Tourism plc has commenced the construction of a state-of-the-art Conference Centre in Salima, with an investment of K8 billion.

Located adjacent to the luxury lakeside resort, Sunbird Waterfront, and the Lakeside Premier Resort, Sunbird Livingstonia, the Conference Centre is slated to open for business by December 2024.

The facility aims to elevate the customer experience for conference and event delegates, aligning with global trends in the hospitality industry.

The Conference Centre will strategically elevate Sunbird Waterfront and Sunbird Livingstonia as the premier providers of hospitality for large-scale conferences and entertainment events in the Lakeshore area of Salima district.

Featuring a 500-seater main conferencing arena equipped with modern and state-of-the-art facilities, the facility will have a total conference capacity of 840, including 6 breakaway rooms accommodating between 20 to 100 delegates each.

Additionally, the center will house a 200-seater restaurant, promising an enhanced dining experience for guests.

“Our focus on investment through product development and improvement remains a priority in our strategy with the objective of improving customer experience and ensuring that our brand remains the preferred hospitality provider,” Sunbird Tourism plc Chief Executive Samuel Mwale said.

“The conference centre presents a game changer in the customer experience for meetings and events in Salima, the modern and upscaled facilities that comes with the Conference centre will ensure value for money for delegates, as well as Conference and Event Organizers.”

He further emphasized:”This facility will seamlessly complement our previous product development endeavors and aligns perfectly with our overarching blueprint for our properties in Salima. Our objective is to establish a comprehensive leisure and conference product that caters to our key segments, promising a distinctive and leisure-filled MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) experience against the breathtaking backdrop of the Lake of Stars.”

Sunbird Hotels and Resorts stand as Malawi’s premier hotel chain, boasting 10 properties across the country. These include four city hotels situated in all three regions of Malawi: Sunbird Capital, Sunbird Mount Soche, Sunbird Lilongwe, and Sunbird Mzuzu.

Additionally, the chain features three sought-after beach resorts along the scenic shores of Lake Malawi – Sunbird Waterfront, Sunbird Livingstonia, and Sunbird Nkopola.
