Taking place from April 15–17, 2024, the much-awaited second edition of the ZITHS Travel, Hospitality and Tourism Education Summit (THTES) promises three days of innovation, teamwork, and strategic planning. The event, which will be held at the esteemed Mulungushi International Conference Centre, aims to build on the incredible achievements of the previous year and further transform the travel and tourism industry.

Under the auspices of Zambia’s Tourism Minister, Rodney M. Sikumba, the inaugural Summit laid the groundwork for ground-breaking initiatives reshaping the landscape of education and workforce development in the industry.

“Following the successful hosting of the Summit last year, ZITHS managed to work with the Curriculum Development Centre under the Ministry of Education to introduce for the first time ever Travel and Tourism as a subject pathway in our school system,” Sikumba enthused.

Also, ZITHS revitalised training initiatives and international exchanges to bridge the skills gap, The Minister highlighted.

“In addition, based on the feedback from employers, ZITHS reintroduced an Apprenticeship programme that allowed 50 learners to undergo workplace training financed through a Private Public Partnership with Diageo products. Further to these significant achievements, ten (10) students and graduates left to participate in a yearlong Exchange Programme coordinated by the Alliance Abroad and facilitated by the Embassy of the United States of America. These landmark outcomes are the fuel driving the preparations for this year’s Summit.”

According to the Minister of Tourism, the forthcoming Summit is expected to be more vibrant and inclusive.

“The presence of the UN Tourism Secretariat extends the participation to all member states and as such the theme and deliberations will not be geographically limited to Zambia. On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, we look forward to welcoming all delegates,” Minister Sikumba remarked.
